We Are the Bridge Now: A Poem for These Times

We are crossing a bridge
Right now,

But the other side is not yet clear,
We can’t quite grasp
Where we are going.

We know where we have been.
But, not yet where
This is leading.

The light is still shining though.
Don’t you feel it?

In the warmth from
Your family, blood or not,
Warm messages of friendship,
And care,
A kind word,
Checking in
On you.

A friend,
A stranger,
Kindness is the light.

A warm roof over our heads
Is the light, too,
Quiet,
Rest,
Solitude,
Restoration,
Remembrance of what matters.

Human connection.
Even at a distance.

The light is still shining
From within and without.

As we make this crossing,
May we carry it with us,
From the known,
Into the unknown.

Unfamiliar,
We may want to turn back,
Fears may arise,
Uncertainties,
But we can see
That this is where
We have been,
Not where we can go.

We can go this time
With more heart,
More light within us,
Because we are remembering now,
That this is what holds us
Together.

This is the bridge.
Love is the bridge.

We can’t keep forgetting,
We have little choice now,
But to remember.

We are the bridges,
Between heaven and earth,
We must remember who we are.

Love is our only mission.
Love is the only bridge that
Will hold us now.

Trust it will hold you,
It is big and strong enough
To hold us all.

Feel the support of it
Beneath your feet now.
Keep walking.
This bridge will not break.
Keep trusting.

This bridge is one we are building,
Of truth.
Sturdy foundation now.
Keep being the bridge back
To love.
