How I learned to meditate!

I wanted to learn how to meditate. I wanted to learn how to be still and enjoy the silence.

But I have kids and a family that looks for me all the time. That was my excuse every time I thought about learning to meditate.

One morning I woke up earlier than the family and decided to start meditating. I had an abundance of depression just cover me like a cloud.

I heard meditation was good for anxiety, depression and stress. There are so many more benefits but these are the ones I was seeking after. I pray every day but I wanted to get rid of this dark cloud. I had been reading that meditation can be done in your own way but I wanted to know the basics so I can enjoy the benefits to its full potential.

There are a lot of resources out there for meditation. I had obviously googled meditation apps. And of course I want the free ones. I came across a few but decided to try out Meditation studio by muse. https://meditationstudioapp.com/. This app is free so I was happy to start there. They also had instructional courses and since I was in learning mode this was a great match.

The meditation app has a couple of free introduction courses

Starter series of 10 recordings on how to start mediation. Everything from feeling calm and grounded. It also helps us to find more energy and focus on our busy minds. It was a great way to help me structure and prepare my mind for this mediation journey I have chose to embark on.

Mediation Essentials is another course that I enjoyed. It went into the basics of how to breathe, the visualization you can encounter and even how to do body scan to put your mind and body to ease.

Eventually I have grown out of this app and wanted to learn more of a variety.

I found the Simple Habit app. This app was recommendation from a friend who had similar personality like me. Very busy and very productive person. It is free to sign up as well.

When you sign up you fill out a questionnaire so they can base your meditation recommendations off of your personality. This app was very inviting with the pictures they used of the instructors and the descriptions of the mediations is clear.

There is as little as 1 minute meditations taking a walk to as much as 20 minute meditations when you’re ready to relax and go to bed. The variety is unlimited.

I love the meditation challenges the app has. It helps me stick to my daily dedication.

Practicing mediation has led me to be more mindful when communicating to others. It allows me to recognize when my body is tight due to stress. I have even got into yoga for stretching and realize that meditation and yoga can go together.

Hopefully after reading this I have encourage you to try out meditation. If you want to learn the different types of mediation check out my meditation page on renewyourlyfe.com
