This Alicia Keys Lockdown Song Made me Cry.

There’s almost nothing better than when the stars come out and shine their light for a good cause.

That’s just what Alicia Keys did when she recorded her new song, “Good Job,” for the essential workers who, every day, place their lives on the line to make sure that the whole is able to carry on the best we’re able.

Keys’s video, included as a part of the Rise Up New York Robin Hood Relief Benefit, shows pandemic heroes from nurses to police officers, grocery store checkers to postal workers—even those simply wearing masks while out and about—juxtaposed with images of empty streets.

The video’s imagery, paired with Keys’s lyrics, sends a message that hits straight to the heart, reminding us that in addition to the essential workers who are out there “doing a good job” when the “world’s out of order,” as Keys sings, we everyday folk staying home and taking the necessary precautionary measures to protect our fellow humans are also included in the homage.

So here’s to all of our essential workers: we appreciate you, we honor you, we thank you.

And also to the rest of us as we phase back into “real-life” with caution, care, and reverence for each other’s lives.

In the words of Keys, “The world needs you now. Know that you matter.”
