Embodied Lessons from Healing Childhood Sexual Abuse—a Poem.

With every self awareness tool that I’ve added to my emotional wellness kit,

Healing from childhood sexual abuse continually teaches me,

That being kind to myself is the safest way to live inside my body.

Despite getting squeamish about how deep the wound cuts,

My heart must open wide enough to wrap my arms around the helplessness of feeling hurt.

Relaxing my stomach so I can withstand the ugliness of injustice without turning my face away,

And straightening my back to confront rejection without being swayed.

Humbles my body to remain human and persuades my mind not to dwell on fear.
