Lessons From Siri – Digital Hygiene

Photo by Anastasia Shuraeva on Pexels.

“ You have twenty- three new messages in twenty-three conversations” an update from Siri.

The pandemic has changed us and how we connect socially and digitally .

I use to pride myself in having good digital hygiene.  This isn’t using the device with clean hands it is similar to sleep hygiene setting healthy limits and usage.

My phone and I now have a radically different relationship.

I have it by my side now always in hopes of FaceTime call from family both near and far.

FaceTime visits are golden and cherished with everyone.

Technology and social media all come with a price. I do find myself a little more overwhelmed as my car announces the new incoming messages “ Renee you have twenty – three new messages in twenty -three conversations”

Siri is also getting a little edge because I swear I hear a little snark.

“ Do you want to respond to these now ?”

No Siri , no I’m not responding.

I’m taking the day off!

We will drive to the country Siri and I together. She can navigate and play some songs and if lost we can always “ recalibrate”

Unplugging is needed even during a pandemic , perhaps more than ever.

It is necessary to have space from the demands of being on and accessible even now. As a creative I need this and crave it .

I encourage you to look at how you are using technology. Do you use it or does it run you?
The world and technology is moving faster than ever. It is ok to slow down and breathe. Downtime is precious and I savour. I’m off to digitally detox for awhile while I drive. The day is unscheduled and the open road awaits.
