Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here to remember Tilly.

A story/poem from a few years ago. Okay, several years ago. Ok- nine years.

Titled:

Dearly Beloved, we gathered here to remember Tilly.

*****

I ventured for a walk today.
Soak in nature” I tell myself,
half-belittling and half-positive.

I saw these beautiful yellow butterflies and some black with blue feathering butterflies swiftly dodging, fluttering chaotically and causing quite a fuss up ahead.

I dared not walk too fast because I didn’t want to scare them off.

As I crept up the dusty dirt road, that honestly needs to be grated because I sort of broke my gosh damn ankle, but that’s a different story.

Anyway.

These savage butterflies were eating a dead frog. A dried, obviously dead-smoothed, frog. Definitely a victim of a hit and run.

What a complete vision shift on these flying kaleidoscopes.

Pest Controllers Extraordinaire.

They are the food of the eventual dead carcass that is consuming them and they’re also teaching their young generations self-cleansing and ridding the waste of a dead animal to promote a health, clean ecosystem.

So I stood there just admiring this single butterfly that was left devouring a flattened frog. And I said: “Buddy I like you. May I call you Tilly”? And he/she/they flew away not giving two flutters of my flattery but I still walked home smiling until i slipped yet again!
But my fault completely, I was trying to secretly steal a yellow iris bulb from my sister in laws house.

Great.

I’m “steal” enjoying nature. I was rewarded from my petty theft with a beautiful bulb to plant in my garden.

But I’ll be damned, I forgot about the frog and I stepped on his deadness. Right along with a butterfly that looked like Tilly.

So I did not smile on my way back home.
I lysol wiped the bottom of my shoes to cleanse the murder and smash and run. I then showered, made a cappuccinos and turned on my PS4.

I went to connect to my Mobile Hotspot and what shows up? A commercial for the importance of butterflies being just as good pollinators as bees.

#Triggered

And now I just helped kill the environment.

Looks like I am going to go over my Weight Watcher points tonight because I’m stealing my brothers king size white chocolate reese cups.

But I’m still a killer.
With a sweet tooth.
Thinking about Tilly. “Pest Controller Extraordinaire” and now, as well, “Best Pollinator“.
