Vinyl Childhood

Photo by Dominika Roseclay on Pexels.

Vinyl.

I imagine myself at nine years old,
riding in my dads pristine 1974
Metallic Orange Ford Truck.

I was mesmerized by the shiny,
steel playgirl emblems and their
silhouettes that danced around
the wood panel dashboard.

I was on my way to Toms Market,
where spending my 2.00 dollar
weekly allowance on candy was
going to make me the envy of the
neighborhood gang.

I remember warm nights,
us kids running around catching
lightning bugs, and listening to
music bellowing out of the garage:
Pink Floyd, Creedence Clearwater Revival
and The Rolling Stones-
on vinyl.

A much simpler time.
Not riddled with technology
but had sustainance just the same.
Tangible, were our surroundings.
Times were to be had.

Vinyl portrayed raw emotion,
errors in motion,
but sounded still sweet
to the craving ear.

It was where I learned that
sometimes, all you need is music,
to help get you through the day.

It’s John Lennons “Happy Xmas, War is over”,
playing on repeat, vinyl,
on Christmas Eve.

The adults drank their
“Grownup Egg Nog”,
(that we silently swiped whenever noone
was looking).

It was good memories when
vinyl was present and I think
it’s time,
to bring that back again!
