This Little Light Of Mine

When I was a little girl I was in a popular touring children’s choir.

A song that we often performed was “This little light of Mine”.  I haven’t thought about this song for years and found myself humming it today.

I had a chuckle. It seems relevant now more than ever. We all have an inner light to shine and share with the world. Most people know this song as a spiritual hymn. It is and it is also a song about overcoming oppression.

This folk song written in the 1800’s has become a popular children’s song. This song has become an anthem.

Singing quietly to myself I am transported in time. I once again see myself as a child in the gospel robe and tie singing on stage.

Today the music fills my heart. I am reminded of that little girl who performed and sang spiritual pieces to uplift. I am reminded of love the eternal light of love. I am also reminded of pain, grief and turmoil both my own and humanity’s

Humans struggle and we have had a fair share of struggles this past year. In our struggle to survive we have turned against others and we have battled wars that no one has seen an invisible oppression that has spread like a wave.

We have fought good fights and we have come together to overcome adversity. We have rallied and we collectively light the way for others struggling in the darkness of a new Dawn.

Join me together in song-

“ Let it shine , shine, shine”
