How do you get detached from the outside world and attached to the inner you?

The inner You is the Self, your real Self. It is made up of Gnan (knowledge).

Gnan means light!

If you have light, you will not stumble in life; you will not be affected if something valuable of yours gets broken or even if something really terrible happens. Right now, do you get affected when this happens? Yes, we all do.

We get affected because we are attached. The outside world is not a problem, but our attachment is the issue. Our outside world includes the body, the name, the ego and everything else that we consider to be ours and are attached to. So, if we get detached from our outside world, and are attached to the inner ‘I’ (the Self), every problem is resolved!

How? Let’s understand….

Except for Self, Everything is within its own Dharma (function or nature)

The dharma of the mind is to think. The mind thinks good thoughts and bad thoughts. To see the good and to see the bad is the function (dharma) of the chit.

The ego is constantly operating where it is needed. Does the ego not get hurt if someone attacks or insults it? Is there not an effect of a compliment and an insult? Therefore the ego is in its own dharma.

The tongue takes the taste; it is its dharma. The ears are in their dharma, the eyes are in their dharma, the nose is in its dharma; Each are in their own dharma. Even the eyes, ears and nose of Lord Mahavir were in their own dharma. His mind was in its dharma and his chit was in its dharma. Yours are in their own dharma too, except the Self; which is not in its dharma. Yes, the Self alone is not in its dharma, and hence all the problems!

Now, Lord Mahavir’s intellect and ego were gone! But ours haven’t.

“If the Self were to come in its dharma, then both the intellect and the ego would come to an end” – claims Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, the enlightened being, and He explains the reason behind this.

“Is there not a difference between the intellect and the Self?”, asks He; and then elaborates,

The Self is the light and so is the intellect. Intellect is the indirect light whereas the Self is direct light.

Indirect light means it is like the rays of sunlight reflecting off a mirror and entering this room. Similarly, the light of the Self falls on the ego, and this light which comes forth through the medium of the ego is the intellect. The ego represents the mirror and the Self represents the Sun. The Self is the original light. It is completely swa-par prakashak (meaning it illuminates the Self and the non-Self too). The Self illuminates all that is to be known.

So, the intellect arises through the medium of the ego. If the medium of the ego were to end, the intellect would no longer remain. Then, the light will be direct. I (the Gnani Purush) receive direct light.

So, what remains for you to do now? You need to get rid of your ego and intellect.

How can the ego and intellect dissolve? When the Self returns to its dharma they will both leave. There is no need to change anything else, because everything else is already in its dharma.”

What will you do to bring the Self in its dharma?

Param Pujya Dadashri illustrates,

“See this ring; there is a mixture of copper and gold in it. Now if you were to randomly ask anyone to separate the gold from the copper, will just anyone do it for you?” No, they will not be able to. Why? because it is a job of a goldsmith. Everyone else will tell you it is not their job. Therefore, if you want to know the Self, you have to ask someone who has knowledge of the Self.”

Thus, To know the Self (the inner You), Go to Gnani Purush!…

In order to bring the Self in its dharma (Atmadharma) one needs a bestower of liberation (moksha): a Gnani Purush. Gnani is ‘a bestower of Gnan’.

Gnani Purush is beyond renunciation and acquisition! Such Gnani grants the gift of moksha to us. He makes us the embodiment of Gnan by bringing our Self into its own dharma.

What is the proof that the Self has come into its dharma?

Param Pujya Dadashri explains, “All these wrong beliefs such as, ‘I am doing it’ and ‘I am this’, will go away. At the moment how many wrong beliefs, such as, ‘I am John (you may insert your own name here), I am this lady’s husband, I am this boy’s father, I am his uncle, I am a businessman, etc. do you have? When will so many wrong beliefs go away? They will all go away when the Self comes into its own dharma. The right belief will replace the wrong ones then. Right belief is called samyak darshan (the enlightened vision). Gnani Purush places the Self in its dharma and the rest are already in their own dharma.”

Therefore, whoever has the desire to get detached from the outside world and attached to the inner you in the true sense, needs to come into the nature of the Self (in Aatmadharma); and to come into Atmadharma, one must go to the Living Gnani, and from Him attain Self-Realization!
