The Five Year Plan

I recently interviewed virtually for a position I was contemplating worthy of packing and moving across the country for.
This move would require living completely alone in a large unknown city without friends and family.

My heart beats a little faster just thinking about it. The truth is even considering a move was liberating.

I recall filling out the pre-screen questionnaire prior and answering the question “ where do you see yourself in five years?”
I answered completely honest holding nothing back.
My answers weren’t just about work they were about life. The life I desire.

The following are some of my responses.

These are from a seasoned and well lived life one not without sorrows.

In five years I hope to be living with people or a person that I love. I hope to be giving more than I receive and appreciate all that I have.

I envision that I will have let go of the burdens and heaviness that I’ve carried for most of my life because I feel that I am slowly releasing.

In five years I will have written and published many pieces including poetry, talks, meditations and articles as well as books.

As long as I breathe I will write and create daily.

When I think of how I would like to work I imagine an independent and interdependent work relationship.
I need autonomy and collaboration.

I need and desire inspiration.

I need a creative quiet workspace.

Creative work isn’t working it is a part of my life and I need to spend time in the act and pursuit of creating.

I also need downtime to meditate and pray- yes pray!

In five years I might not be the CEO of my own company yet, I will think like one as well as an entrepreneur in exploration constantly looking for creative outlets and pursuits.

I hope that I am able to give of my time and talents freely. I dream of helping many people. I dream of being peaceful and living peacefully.

My answers might be shocking and utopian, however, if we are going to dream let’s dream big! I think my answers did surprise the interviewer the day of my interview. In the end I interviewed the company as much as they interviewed me!
I’m not waiting – the five-year plan begins now! Life and love are now!
I start with some self-love, self-inquiry and a forgiveness. The grievances of yesterday are gone! Today and this moment are what needs my attention.

I ask you the same questions today.

Evaluating where you are right now in your life are there things you would like to change?

What is your five year dream plan and how are you taking steps today to make your dream a reality?

Dream big it is your life after all
