i never liked him all that much.
sure, we valued different things in life
&
we didn’t have all that much in common either.
but that’s not why i wasn’t a fan of his.
he was bad for her.
i’m still not sure they were ever meant to be together.
Ma likes to say he never judged her
or tried to change her.
but
the way i see it,
he never challenged her
to take better care of herself
or to strive for something more.
they fed off each other,
each one delving deeper into their vices,
side by side,
silent.
until all that was left,
was sickness.
