With permission, please let me introduce you to Miles Vang. He is a self- taught song writer, composer, and artist. He is transgender. He is a painter. He is a recovering addict. He is living with a mental disability. He is brave. He wasn’t always named Miles. He was once Shia and Shia still exists. He chose the name Miles to describe the thousands of steps he has taken to show up here today.
His song, ” A New Chapter” has never been released and this story has never been written – until now. As I type and as he sits next to me singing this song, his heart is beating fast because he is scared to show up. This is a testament to how we all need to take fear with us, grab it by the hand and yank it into tomorrow.
Enjoy!
” A New Chapter”
It’s a new chapter of my life I wanna show. I’m so close to be where I want to be.
I am so happy.
In my strength, I feel stronger. I feel so alive for the first time.
Either you love me or you don’t. I will understand, there is no one to blame.
But I cannot see in your shoes. I can only be of who I am.
Cause beauty has
NO FACE
NO GENDER
NO MISTAKES
That’s who I am!

This is wonderful! Love the poetry and the origin of his name. 🙂
