Ardha means half. Sage Matsyendra is the founder of Hatha Yoga. Ardha Matsyendrasana is a wonderful seated twist that can be practiced by beginners as well as advanced yoga practitioners. To enter the posture, sit comfortable with the legs stretched out in front of you. Then, bend the left leg and place the left foot on the floor next to the right knee. Continue by placing the outside of the right foot on the floor to the left of the left hip and dropping the right knee to the floor. Then step the left foot over the right knee. On an inhale, raise the right arm and twist to the left. Exhale reach the right upper arm to the left of the left knee and the right fingers to the inside of the left foot. Reach the left arm around the waist to the left and the left fingers to the right hip. Rotate the head to the left and look to the left. Breathe deeply for ten breaths. Then release the posture and practice the posture on the other side. Enjoy and relax deeply into this posture.
