While straws are part of the colossal problem plaguing the health of our planet, specifically the oceans the bigger problem appears to be the elsewhere. According to a Washington Post editorial published in the Chicago Tribune on Monday morning, the real culprit are the abandoned commercial fishing nets. While giving up and banning straws is worthy and I am not suggesting that we give up on it, legislation mandating commercial fishing companies to label their nets so that they can be held accountable if and when they carelessly release them into the depths to wreak more plastic based havoc.
