There is no doubt that smart home technology is slowly but gradually taking over the world and it is predicted that it will be the preferred choice for most of the people in the next decade. The exponential growth of the smart home industry in this era has changed the perception of people towards its importance and reliability but there still is a renaissance and a backlash occurring in the smart home world at the same time. The market is flooded with a lot of new products and the intriguing features are attracting the people where most of these gadgets are pretty affordable now. On the other hand, there is a backlash coming from the cumbersome, expensive and poorly supported products which are also expensive and people are reluctant to invest in the smart home technology due to these failed products and tech startups.

Due to this air of renaissance and backlash, people surely are interested in the smart home technology but are hesitant to upgrade their home to a smart home. A very important question in the tech world these days is if it’s smart to upgrade your home to a smart home? Let’s talk about some of the realities and myths about smart home technology to find the answer to this question.
· Is smart home technology really secure?
You might have heard of hacking into personal accounts and how technology makes you vulnerable with all these cybercriminals in the news every day but it is not that simple. Yes, you should first consider the security and reliability of a technology or product if you are going to get it for yourself.

There are companies and products who have reliable security and ensure that there is no backlash in their products and they really have a clean track record. Especially when it comes to the smart locks and smart home cameras then you can’t afford any breach in your firewalls or network system. Well, you can establish a secure network so make sure that your wireless network is secured with WPA2 security with limited guest access. Always use a different yet strong password for each device and make sure nobody can have access to the modem and routers of your network system. Take all these necessary measures and you are all covered up.
· Cost and Expenses
Cost is another concern that might get you to think twice before getting a smart home product for yourself. It is true that the new gadgets and expensive products can get you out of your budget but if you purchase the products wisely and tech out your house with DIY products then you might be surprised how cheap and affordable these products can be. If you really are reluctant to spend on the smart products then start with something small and useful such as a smart bulb or smart plugs. If you are satisfied and can afford the other products then there is no harm in upgrading your home into a smart home and you will surely be satisfied with your investment.
· Obsolescence of Devices
Do not spend on the new products and technology if it does not have a clean track record and reviews to make sure that you are getting the right product. Avoid purchasing products in crowdfunding and stop being an early-adapter of the new product or technology. It surely is a fun to gamble and be an early adapter of the products from big names like Google, Apple, Amazon or Samsung but if you are afraid to spend your hard earned money on new products then go with the products that have a proven track record or have previous additions of the products with good reviews and track record.
· Risky Platforms and Unstable Startups
Do not spend your effort, money, and energy on the cheap products and unstable startups to avoid any unnecessary troubles in the near future. It is a common problem with the people that they are sensationalist and buy products at pretty cheap rates and from a new company that does not have any solid background which ends up in the junk, leaving you frustrated. Get the products from reliable platforms and do research about the products before getting them for yourself. Take necessary precautions and be sensible in your dealings and you will do just fine.
· Conclusion
To be honest, I really think it is a fantastic time to upgrade your house to smart home but do not hurry and do a little research before getting anything new. You will be really surprised at the comfort and convenience these devices and the smart home technology can bring in your daily life. So yeah, it is pretty safe to say that it is not a bad idea to upgrade your home to a smart home.
