So we are not going to tell you what to do while taking up your own home decor project as you have the liberty to show up your creativity but yes we can help you out in determining what not to do to avoid blunders while decorating or renovating your home.
Avoiding some design disasters will definitely lead to an impressive finish. It will not only improve your work but also save you a lot of bucks. Here are the mistakes to be avoided:
Choosing paint before
Your home is an empty canvas, so splash colors! Naah, this is not gonna workout. Even if your home is an empty canvas, painting is not the only thing, you are going to do, there are lot more elements that will be added. It is always better to match the painting with the furniture and furnishing rather than doing the other way round. Choose the furniture and furnishing and then select the color for painting the wall. Usually new home owners make a mistake of painting the home first and then selecting the furniture. You can at least think of what type, style, color of elements you will be adding in your living and accordingly choose the painting.
Buying whole set of furniture
Buying similar type of furniture set is a passe and also an interior decor blunder as it creates a typical look with no personal touch. Fusion is the in thing. Blend vintage with contemporary, luxury with minimalism style, choose any combination of your choice and spice up the space. For example: blend the high-end Italian furniture with the minimalist Scandinavian-style furniture. Blend of different styles of furniture and home accessories will make your home stand out from others.
Absence of indoor plants
Make room for nature! Bring in some natural oxygen and freshness in your living space. Indoor plants will not make your space cluttered, in fact it will breathe in some life to the space. No need to make the room look like a forest, just add some greenery to clear the toxins.
Choosing too bright or too dim light
Neither illuminate bright like Christmas or dim like a detective’s room. Light up your home appropriately and nothing works better than layer lighting. To make the room more bright and dramatic you can add table lamps or sconces, you can on them only when needed. Make sure you choose lamp shade that’s of right size and matches the size of your room.
Too many photos
We understand how much you love your family but putting up photos everywhere will look as if you are too much flaunting your affection. Yes, it is your personal space but remember it’s not an art gallery or a photo studio. Only mount some of the favourite pics on the wall, rest all will look good in albums.
Rather than knowing what to do, it is always wise to know what not to do. It will make your ideas work effectively and this way your DIY project of uplifting your personal sanctuary will turnout to be successful.
