The Pen is Mightier than the Sword.

Every day I wake to read articles from Dailykos.com, ElephantJournal, WaPo, NYT, People’s World, Anti-Media, and more. I get my news from as many sources as possible. Notice I don’t mention television. In other words, I read a lot and as widely as possible. And every day, I get frustrated, angry, terrified, and every other emotion with the intense desire to be anywhere but here.

I know you know where this is going. But, before I get there. Something occurred to me. I am a writer. I know other writers. And though I read other writers, I began to wonder. How, in today’s world, can we make sure the pen is mightier than the sword?

There is a Civil War, again in the U.S. It’s not obvious. But, it exists. Actually, it feels like we’re more in a combination of Civil War, American Revolution, WWI, and II combined. Am I the only one who feels this way? At least in the days leading up to and after the two world wars and most of the Cold War, there were bomb drills. So, what do we do now?

On my professional website, most of my blogs are about freelance writing, random thoughts about my day, and even an effort to talk about a favorite client. But, lately, it’s these things I’ve thought about of late coupled with a book about The Future of Leadership – a warning as we enter and arrive at the Fourth Industrial Revolution of the digital age, that has me calling out to those I think can help.

I have no idea if it “takes just one” anymore, if it”takes a village”, or if I’m writing in a vacuum, but it is my hope that the generations past, present, and future, who want to see, be part of, and leave a better world, can help write our way into a future that will exist in 30,50,100 or 1000 years from now.

Everything we know is compromised: our humanity, truth, environment, education, health, and the list goes on. Who will put persons ahead of profit? Who will realize the value of human beings? If not us, then who? Don’t wait for someone else to do it. Let’s make change together.

I’m open to ideas. If history books are written by the winners. Let’s write a history book that doesn’t rely on winners and losers, but on common sense, moral compass, empathy, and compassion. Let’s write the history book now. History in the making.

Let’s prove, definitively, the pen is mightier than the sword.
