Over The Misty Mountains Cold—The Hobbit Song.

by on Feb 5, 2012

I’ve listened to the snippet of this song in the Hobbit trailer maybe 40 times. I’m part Scottish, that’s my excuse. Today, listening to this: I was reminded of that great trailer, and listened to the song another 20 times. Of course, the trailer’s playing over it…still, a full minute of that minute point five [...]

Neigh, Chivalry isn’t Dead.

by on Jan 31, 2012

Neigh, this horse knows respect furthers all things: This chivalrous horse opens doors for mares because he knows a little effort upfront, now, will pay off on the backside later. Bonus: plenty more signs of animal intelligence and orneriness below:

When Muppets Attack (Fox News). {Video}

by on Jan 30, 2012

Muppets attack back: Last month, Fox’s Eric Trolling accused the Muppets…yes, the Muppets—of being no more than a bunch of “Liberals Trying To Brainwash Your Kids Against Capitalism.” Yesterday, the Muppets responded, rather surprisingly. During a press conference, Kermit and Miss Piggy were asked for their reaction to the allegation that they were “pushing a [...]

Coolest Dad Ever.

by on Jan 28, 2012

Everything counts! I can’t get over how cool these children are, and how cute, and the expressions of the boy in particular crack me up. And this dad…he makes parenting look way hipper than bachelorhood. Via What: “Video artist Dicken Schrader rubs his sensational child-rearing skills in all our faces by enlisting the help of his kickass [...]

Stephen Colbert talks with Maurice Sendak.

by on Jan 27, 2012

After watching these, I loooooooove Maurice Sendak. Stephen Colbert, in character, wins over Maurice Sendak, a real character. {Videos} “The complexity of children…” “I don’t write for children…I write.” So fun. Feisty. Sweet. Real. So frank, funny. So rude in an awesome way. I love this man: The Colbert Report Get More: Colbert Report Full [...]

Videogameasana – 10 Secrets to Make Learning Fun for Our Kids!

by on Jan 26, 2012

When we practice yoga, we acknowledge the growth and change that comes from our commitment to breath, body and soul – this growth comes from consistently practicing over an extended period of time. More kids have learned the value of practice from playing Syper Mario Brothers than we care to acknowledge, but it isn’t easy to beat level one without practicing (when you will have to jump on mushrooms in life I am not sure).

Kids? Yoga? No Thanks. ~ Mara Colbert

by on Jan 26, 2012

There, I said it. I do not want to do yoga with kids, around kids, or with kids anywhere in the vicinity. I understand that there are some parents who enjoy doing yoga with their children, and some teachers who love teaching them.

“Real friends don’t count chromosomes.”

by on Jan 11, 2012

People with disabilities are people, too. They don’t deserve being made fun of. They deserve understanding and friendship. Enjoy: Edit: to view the photos in the correct order, click here.

A Child, a Rare + Fatal Disease, Plus Hope.

by on Jan 11, 2012

Hoping and Praying for the Future A teacher at my son’s elementary school, Sara Kennicott helped my son to read. He couldn’t wait to see her on the days he left the classroom for his special reading sessions. This is the story of Sara’s little girl, Bridget. I hope you’ll read and share it. Bridget [...]

“An image…that will live with you forever.”

by on Jan 11, 2012

My kind of Dad. “Finish the race together.” From first place to…broken down. The heart-touching moments, for me, for some reason, where when the father angrily told off the rules-followers telling him to get off and get away. Be a good father. Just do it: Derek Redmond Olympic Games Finish the race together Excerpt: The [...]

Roald Dahl: the key to being Beautiful.

by on Jan 10, 2012

The key to beauty? Maitri. Skip the crazy-pricey-trendy clothes, the plastic surgery. Dress smartly and be yourself…the light and charm in our eyes and heart will make us beautiful. And we don’t need to fight aging. Just like yourself, more and more. Roald Dahl: Bonus. ~ Another vaguely-relephant bonus: Shel Silverstein (reminds me of me, [...]

From Father to Son: “The Ten Things.” {Wolf & Medallion video}

by on Jan 10, 2012

“The only thing you need to watch this year.” Saw this live play/film/interactive experience—for that’s what it is, an experience, not a passive viewing—this summer at the 5 Point Film Festival (click here for more awesome trailers), which we helped media sponsor. It was the best thing I saw there, by far, and much of [...]

The Lion King Rises.

by on Jan 2, 2012

Batman Rises…plus Lion King. The lip syncing is incredible. Not sure what this has to do with “the mindful life,” our stated editorial mission…except that it’s awesome. And “the mindful life” is awesome, too, so…well, that’s all I got. “Can’t wait until 1994.” From brilliant mind behind this mashup: “I synced the audio of the [...]

“The best Christmas gift of all.”

by on Dec 24, 2011

“Heartwarming Tearjerker.” “Anchors aren’t supposed to cry…” “…best presents don’t come with price tags…” A girl’s impossible wish.

Pink Stuff? Little girl sees through decades of marketing strata using only her inherent basic goodness and insight. Thanks, people of Reddit, for the tip.

Could Yoga Inspire a New Generation? ~ Christina Erl

by on Dec 5, 2011

My son, William is 9 and my daughter, Sequoia is 8. They sat out several poses but managed to do what everyone is told is their soul purpose on their very first class – they stayed in the room the whole time.

It Gets Better: “I have a million reasons to be here.”

by on Dec 4, 2011

We can actually shift our culture to one that doesn’t see bullies as strong and Jonahs as weak. Please share. Watching this just-gone-viral-video (that was posted six months ago) isn’t for the faint of heart (neither is living beneath a cloud of bullying): If you need some cheering up after watching this, doubleclick the above [...]

Review: Boulder Ballet presents: The Nutcracker.

by on Nov 26, 2011

I just dressed up and biked over to Macky Auditorium at the University of Colorado, where I attended Boulder Ballet’s The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker, for me—for just about all of us—is an annual ritual of “enlightened society”—young and old, families and young couples on dates gather to celebrate the holiday season. The Boulder Ballet’s Nutcracker [...]

One of my favorite movies is free, right now.

by on Nov 22, 2011

John Neville, Baron Munchausen himself, just passed away. In his honor, I propose that you spend a magical hour or two watching this with someone you love very much (yourself counts). Click here to watch, free, on Hulu. More brilliant, charming, funny, heroic and occasionally evil actors than any other movie, ever (and, a young [...]

by on Nov 21, 2011

A kitty, born blind, “sees” toys for the first time. Inspired? Rescue. Close to a million pets are killed every month. Just remember: it’s a big responsibility. ~ ed. “Oskar the Blind Kitten and His First Toys.” “Since he is completely blind…we gave him some balls with bells inside. As you can tell, he can [...]

Three Intimidatingly Talented Teens take on Adele’s Rolling in the Deep.

by on Nov 20, 2011

They may not have (time to have) had their hearts broken yet, but they make up for the lack of depth with cuteness. And, needless to say, they come awfully close to Adele herself in pure good-god talent. …Angie (10, vocals), Abelardo (15, guitar/bass/piano), and Gustavo Vazquez (13, drums)… We are siblings doing what we [...]
