As independent media, we’re created by and for our readers. Our mission: to share the good word beyond our core or choir to those who don’t yet know they give a care.

We’re about “the mindful life”—yoga, organics, sustainability, conscious consumerism, active citizenship, ecofashion, the arts, non-new agey spirituality, enlightened education … anything that helps us to live a good life that also happens to be good for others, and our planet.

By submitting content to Elephant Journal, you certify this is your work, original, and any excerpts of other work are cited and Fair Use or public domain. By submitting you give Elephant Journal “use rights” in perpetuity. That’s a fancy word for “forever,” or until 3D holograms flying out of your contact lenses are a thing. That said, you can use our edited and published article with credit and link in any publication that you own or control—i.e. your personal site or a gallery exhibition. You can re-publish your Elephant article elsewhere online only if: 1) you change the text by 20%; 2) you significantly change the first paragraph; 3) you change your title meaningfully; 4) you do not use our edits (use your draft); and 5) you link back to where it initially appeared on Elephant. If in print, you can publish our version with prominent credit if you ask for permission.

If this article has been previously published elsewhere, you certify that you hold the rights but Elephant can have “free to use” rights in perpetuity. Also, you have re-edited and changed the title and article itself significantly (except if noted that your material is an excerpt from a book.)

Please save a copy of your submission, and then re-read your words for tpyos, grammar, honesty, accessibility, and respect for all beings. We do moderate all posts and will delete them, block you, and scratch our fingernails on chalkboards if you post inappropriate words or images, and posts defaming individuals (libel is a thing, read up). Sexually explicit writings are okay if describing consensual, mindful, caring love-making. May it be of benefit!

Images should be well under 1mb and be relevant to your article. You must have rights to use image. Images must adhere to our community guidelines as described above. Images will be deleted and users blocked if inappropriate.
