George Cassidy Payne is a writer, educator, and crisis counselor based in Rochester, NY. With a background in philosophy and ethics, George has spent over 20 years working in social services, including positions as a peace and justice educator, hotline case manager, and suicide prevention counselor. Drawing from his experiences in both the classroom and community, he is committed to creating spaces for healing and reflection through writing, dialogue, and mindfulness.
As a Creative Strategist with Agape Haven of Abundance, a nonprofit organization focused on the educational and cultural enrichment of young women of color, George supports initiatives aimed at reducing intergenerational poverty and fostering community empowerment. His work is deeply rooted in social justice, and he regularly engages in efforts to address trauma and mental health challenges in underserved populations.
George is also passionate about education, having taught philosophy and ethics at Finger Lakes Community College and Niagara County Community College. His philosophy of teaching encourages engagement, critical thinking, and the exploration of ethics in real-world contexts.
A lover of literature and poetry, George draws inspiration from both his academic background and the lived experiences of those he serves, believing in the transformative power of storytelling and empathetic connection.
With a unique blend of social work, education, and creative expression, George continues to strive toward a future where hope, healing, and justice can thrive.
