Mia Cara Cosco

I am passionate about studying the long-term effects of childhood trauma and grief. My time as a Research Assistant at the UBC Peer Lab (PEARL) honed my skills in data analysis and study design, reinforcing my belief in research as a catalyst for meaningful change.

Central to my work is the GRIEF Methodology—a framework I have constructed to move through grief (because I believe the only way out is through):

G for Gather: opening up to people we know, like, and trust about our grief so we don’t hold it all in

R for Rage: somatically move through our angry sensations to heal our rage so we don’t let anger run us

I for Introspection: appreciating and trusting the value of alone time through Vipassana meditation

E for Entheogens: psychedelics in treating grief, end-of-life anxiety, and having psychospiritual talks

F for Fearlessness: bringing the unconscious to consciousness through dream analysis and goalsetting

My ultimate goal is to leverage this methodology to become a self-sufficient author and establish a children’s charity focused on trauma and grief. I envision building a research-driven organization where I can mentor future RAs to explore how childhood trauma impacts later life.
