I Learned to Distrust Myself Long Before the Assault.
Romy Krakauer Limenes is a writer, breathwork practitioner, and former nurse with more than two decades of experience caring for people through some of life’s hardest and most vulnerable moments. A mother, animal lover, and lifelong explorer of healing and human resilience, her work centers on what it means to rebuild steadiness and self-trust after trauma, upheaval, and the collapse of life as one once knew it.After being violently assaulted, criminalized, and pulled into a prolonged legal and professional nightmare that dismantled her career, identity, financial stability, and sense of safety, Romy found herself confronting something far deeper than the external crisis alone. The experience became a profound breaking point that exposed a lifelong pattern of self-abandonment, hypervigilance, and disconnection from her own inner knowing – patterns rooted much earlier in her life and carried quietly for decades beneath achievement, caretaking, and survival. What began as an attempt to survive emotionally and physiologically slowly evolved into a deeper return to herself from the inside out. Through breathwork, movement, nervous system healing, reflection, nature, sound, and small daily rituals of presence, Romy began rebuilding steadiness within herself – not as a wellness pursuit, but as a lifeline. That process eventually gave rise to her signature framework, Lifelines + The 3Rs, along with her Bend & Breathe experiences, which blend breathwork, movement, sound exploration, and embodied presence to support women navigating overwhelm, burnout, transition, grief, and personal transformation. At the heart of Romy’s work is the belief that healing is not about becoming someone new, but about learning to remain connected to yourself through life’s hardest seasons – and discovering that even within the wreckage, there can still be meaning, beauty, and a way forward.Today, Romy shares this work through writing, speaking, workshops, Bend & Breathe experiences, and 1:1 coaching for women navigating hard seasons and seasons of transformation. Through nervous system support, embodied practice, and honest conversation, she helps women reconnect with themselves in real time and build steadiness from the inside out.
