In the Kundalini system, each chakra is associated with one of the elements, and “earth” is the element of the first chakra, the Muladhara, which controls the creative power and is the seat of the latent Kundalini. Think about the creative power of the earth. What is growing? What is grounded? What is rooted? What strength do you draw from? Look at the manifestation of your own creation. See how your concepts create your own little world— your mental world, your emotional world, your spiritual world. What have you created for yourself?2,069 views

It is really quite pervasive, "Life is suffering and the basis of that suffering is desire." It is that misunderstanding and narrow view of that is what yoga is that I wanted to break down. We all have desires.3,373 views

Go ahead, feel like crap. It'll make you feel better. Yin and Yang: polar opposites. But both are necessary in order for the other to survive. In life we feel a healthy balance of pain and joy. Pain sucks. But we feel it for a reason.2,006 views

Paige Elenson was on a Kenyan safari with her family five years ago when first she encountered acrobats practicing outside a Masai village. Not one to let life pass her by, she jumped out of a safari vehicle to practice alongside them in an act that would later inspire the Africa Yoga Project. An international non-profit, it trains young adults living in East African slums and rural villages to teach yoga and earn their livings leading classes in their communities.462 views

For many years, my stubborn insistence on dwelling in the confused mental realm of small relative truths and negations and statements of 'well if you look at it this way its this way" and "from a certain other point of view its this way" left me like a navigator trying to chart his way on all the other, lesser stars rather than focus on the one Fixed Star that could guide him home.781 views

His views are, however, shared by a growing number of conservative extremists across Europe. They are alarmed by Eurabia—the idea that Europe is being taken over by Muslims, a fact which, they claim, is supported by national and international politicians. Hence, Breivik’s need to kill the Prime Minister and his young followers, all those who are polluting the purity of European culture.1,073 views

Because what would happen if we all started talking about it? And discovered that we can speak gently, respectfully, thoughtfully on the topic. We can listen and be curious and discover that our fears and our delights are common and understandable, that our bodies are beautiful and unimaginable, that we are alive and we are wonderful.3,279 views

At the reception desk, I ditched my shoes, grabbed a mat and headed into class. For some reason, I expected fans or AC or at least an open window in the classroom — maybe because every other form of indoor exercise I've undergone has had one of these luxuries — but this was not the case. Apparently, this was to be a level 2 hot yoga class, and my humiliation was to be assured.1,869 views

First off, let me say we hoped for you. We prayed for you. And when we knew you were coming, we rubbed the buddha belly, felt you kick and imagined what you would look like. Some of us went to great lengths to have you, had surrogates, or adopted. We were also scared. A couple of kids, at any age...what did we know about parenting? Then you were here. A small thing, with a red face and star-fish hands. So peaceful. Until about week three, when you became very angry that your womb was gone. We stayed up every night, rocking and consoling you, helpless to ease your suffering, helpless to ease our own suffering.833 views
