Adrenals are in charge of regulating stress responses. They release hormones in an effort to keep the body in balance. When under constant stress over a long period of time, they can burn out and become depleted.390 views

The Four Desires (4D) is a step-by-step process based on ancient yogic teachings that enable you to figure out your life purpose. Rod Stryker wrote 4D to share the best of his thirty years of teaching yoga and meditation to general audiences. Our vision for this book club is to build a community of active 4D readers that want to better understand its key teachings.3,779 views

Perhaps by contemplating death more, we actually learn how to live better. Perhaps we even get a clearer understanding of what we are doing here and what our purpose is.932 views

Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter Heatherlyn’s sophomore album Storydwelling threads the theme of living in and among musical and lyrical narratives that range from the personal to the universal and everything in between. I obtained a pre-release of Storydwelling this summer, and it’s taken me a while to decide exactly what I want to say about it. Rather than write a typical CD review (in part because, admittedly, I’m biased), I would like to offer a different type of essay on this outstanding album. I hope that my musings will invite you to consider how music and stories have impacted your own life experiences.757 views

Perhaps now or soon you will realize that you are not meant to fit into a box. That you are fluid, and graceful and beautiful and wild just as you are. That you need not fit a prototype of perception, that you are your own breath, unique and individual and your own heart-beat, running at your own pace.951 views

In shedding The Way, I’m discovering a new path. As I bid The Way farewell and embark upon I don’t know I humbly accept that had I not traveled along The Way, I may never have been able to appreciate and embrace the limitless magnitude of the unknown.1,572 views

If we can’t show up in the studio as human beings, then we’re teaching our students that they can’t, either. And then we’re only reinforcing the belief that yoga is a practice through which you manage your mess or bypass your shit, rather than a practice that’s really about being fully yourself.4,337 views

The type of breathing we need to learn is not often taught to us; it’s a conscious way of breathing without the need to control the breath. Put simply, it’s “breath observation” or “awareness of breath”. Our breath is our anchor, our reminder and our teacher. No matter where we go or what we’re doing, the action of breathing is always happening.988 views

According to many indigenous cultures, the survival of the human race depends on our connection with our human ancestors. Many of their practices and rituals have to do with sustaining and reviving these connections. It is said that the healing in one generation extends backwards seven generations and forwards seven generations.541 views

Passion transforms technique into art, elevates a physical act into a transcendental one by seamlessly melding art and science. All great artists, be they great musicians, painters or great lovers all have this in common, and it's not technical proficiency: it's how they make you feel.4,852 views

Despite our obsession with sex, American culture doesn’t really encourage nakedness (physically or emotionally). And if all the pleasantries and social constructs we use weren’t bad enough, we add social media into the mix and distance each other even further. When we're naked and silent, all of that falls away.14,045 views

Is it possible to derive pleasure from one's relationship to the things in one's life? Have you ever thought about how yoga relates to the "stuff" in your life? How mindful are you when it comes to your possessions? In yoga's eight fold path there is a "yama" (moral code) called "Aparigraha" which has been translated as “non-hoarding”, “non-possessiveness” and “non-attachment”. Interestingly, mindful engagement with material possessions is seen in the general tradition of yoga as part of the path to happiness, contentment, and inner peace.959 views

I'd like to talk about the relationship between enlightenment and the evolution of culture. The world we're living in is a very different world from the one that existed two thousand years ago, one thousand years ago, or even five hundred years ago. And our needs as evolving human beings in the postmodern context in the twenty-first century are dramatically different from those of individuals in the past. What does the postmodern expression of enlightenment look like? How can the revelation of emptiness or nonduality help me make sense out of the human experience in the twenty-first century?545 views

If you are even an iota faithful to your guru’s teachings – break free. Slash the binding apron strings and grow; the guru must have planted the seeds in you to make you grow into mighty trees. Call upon your guru to free you from all bondages, including your bondage to him. That is your biggest obeisance to him, and his ultimate gift to you. If not, then you have not learned well.583 views

Kolajo Paul Afolabis' disappearance is completely out of character and of great concern. He left his home in Providence, RI around 9 am on Wed 9/21 to go running and has not been seen or heard from since. His wallet, keys, and cell phone are all at his home, as he only bring his iPod and a house key on his runs. He is 6'3", 175 lbs. and has hazel eyes.645 views

As a symbol, the cross has pretty much lost it's power. It's become a mere piece of bling that people wear who haven't the foggiest idea of what it means. An empty cross is supposed to show that the powers of this world are impotent and have been defeated. That God's love is stronger than our hate and fear. If Jesus had been killed in 2011, it would've been via being strapped to a vinyl table and having chemicals forced into his veins. If I were to wear such an unusual pendant on a necklace around my neck, people would likely ask "what is that?" And I'd be honored to tell them.1,652 views
