Since yoga instructors make next to nil when it comes to teaching yoga classes, I think the ones who have opted to not throw away $55-75/year on a meaningless, commercialized label are brilliant.619 views

When I get an opportunity to fly someone their first flight, I consider it a privilege. It's like being someone's first yoga teacher because they have nothing yet to compare it to. A blank slate. Offering them a therapeutic flying experience and observing the look of dazed bliss on their face when they float back to the ground, now that is pure mudita. Feeling vicarious joy or pleasure in delighting in their experience is slightly addictive.529 views

Magic: a belief lost to a modern age that made sense of things beyond explanation, an understanding that beneath the rational hid the sublime, waiting to be discovered by those whose eyes hadn't been encrusted by life's disappointments.193 views

I knew intimately the power of "now". I'd read about it, heard about it, and had seen more than one book title containing those words; but I'm not sure I'd understood it on this level until this moment.314 views

How many women have criticized ourselves like this at some point in our lives? Probably many of us, particularly if we live in Western societies. Here, cultural messages about women’s bodies and thinness saturate our media and “fat” is seen as a reflection of moral worth. Rather than seeing beauty in a range of body sizes and types—as yoga would have us do—women learn that only a narrow image counts.211 views

Reflections on Being alone and our Divine Nature. What is it in us that insists that we always must be with someone and/or in love? I know for years, I couldn’t stand to be alone on Friday night. Most of us will do anything to never be alone. Most of the things we do to busy ourselves are attempts to never look and see what is here within us.421 views

How cool is it that as adults we have the same thing? It’s called a New Year’s Resolution. There is a magical day every year, January 1st, that we can say, ok, starting today, things are going to be better… Relationships, career, health, we can be as creative as we want with the changes we want to make in our life, and it can be anything. “Do-over.”336 views

It’s happened more than once that a student seems upset or offended by the idea that he or she is somehow dependent on yoga practice. It’s pretty common that we begin to feel improvements in our lives within a short time of starting and maintaining practice.814 views

We may become more patient and compassionate toward ourselves in the process. Yet we're no longer helpless or passive here. It's not like it was when fear was running the show. Our role is now to get off our asana and develop the mental strengths needed to embody fearlessness.248 views

I delivered a truckload of nearly composted horse poop to a friend today. On my way over I was thinking about how my time at the barn helps me deepen my practice and offers up so many metaphors. For instance, when someone is ‘giving you crap’, all you have to do is put it in a pile and let it sit there.61 views

We need a few minutes a day (start with 3-5 minutes) in our meditation practice to steady our thoughts. Why do we need this time? Pratyahara. "Unless we learn how to see beyond what our eyes, ears, nose, mouth and skin are telling us, we can never experience the totality of who we are or the world of which we are a part."1,742 views
