Yoga: it’s what’s for dinner. ~ Sean O’Connor

by on Feb 12, 2012

Now imagine that YOGA had, at its disposal, million-dollar budgets and a bevy of branding experts. With those resources, it could create demand for yoga the way DeBeers creates demand for diamonds, the way Frito-Lay creates demand for Doritos, not to mention the way the two Toms sell toothpaste and shoes.

Six Leadership Lessons from My Yoga Teacher. ~ Dale Myers

by on Feb 12, 2012

Two or three times each week, a group of ten to fifteen of us file into a small mirrored room with a hardwood floor and soft ambient lighting. We claim our usual spaces, roll out our mats, and begin the process of warming our muscles, loosening our joints and preparing our bodies for the workout that will soon begin.

20 Things to Know Before Starting a Yoga Practice.

by on Feb 12, 2012

Yoga is not a passive practice. Finding balance and flexibility comes from the selective engagement of certain muscles depending on the poses. Learning about how to activate these muscles is a long and never-ending journey. Enjoy it.

Zero Waste Bathroom. ~Bea Johnson

by on Feb 11, 2012

The fastest way to get to Zero Waste here, is to find alternatives to your disposables: Remove your bathroom trash can...whatever lands on the floor is what calls for an ersatz. Here are the changes we've made.

Yogic Sleep?

by on Feb 11, 2012

Relax Into Greatness is an approach to the ancient form of relaxation called yoga nidra, yogic sleep. In this ancient yogic practice, we develop gratitude and effortlessness through relaxation; these are two of the most important attributes for actualizing your sankalpa. Your ability to manifest your sankalpa is greatly supported through the process of yoga nidra.

I don’t know what I’m doing most of the time.

by on Feb 11, 2012

None of us really know what we're doing, most of the time. Frost makes the world beautiful, nonetheless. Cats make laps warm. We can sing for each other. We can know that we're not alone.

The Yoga Revolution: Bridging the Gap between Spiritualism & Materialism. ~ James Rohan

by on Feb 11, 2012

It’s time to wake up. Contrary to what advertisers and most major religions teach, happiness is not “out there”. There is no power outside of ourselves that can make us happy. Happiness has never been out there and yet day after day, year after year we go “out there” looking for it.

Say ‘I love you’ through the language of flowers. ~ JB Bardot

by on Feb 11, 2012

The Victorians used flowers to send encoded messages to the objects of their affections. Because it was taboo to openly express one's feelings during the Victorian era, lovers spoke to one another through the "Language of the Flowers".

You’re on Your Own. ~ Jacquelyn O’Brien

by on Feb 10, 2012

I’ve been giving some thought to gurus, teachers and our relationships with them. I’ve been thinking about our tendency to give away our power. To invest heavily in someone else seems to reduce our ability to invest in ourselves.

On Knowing What is Meant By Goodness: The John Friend Controversy, with Respect.

by on Feb 10, 2012

Just as certain combinations of notes make chords that uplift and others create discord, so certain behaviors are in line with goodness and some are not. There are real forces in this universe of harmony and joy and uplift and there are forces of confusion and disharmony and violence and pain that draw unhealthy hearts like a magnet. There are ways of being that bring smiles to the eyes of children, and there are ways of being that result in conflict among men.

Remember your New Years’ Resolutions? No? Here are the Buddha’s all 12 (apocryphal) ways to fix that.

by on Feb 10, 2012

My guess is if the Buddha did New Years’ Resolutions, the Four Noble Truths would’ve looked like this: 1. In life there is time-wasting 2. The origin of time-wasting is unconsciousness 3. To stop being unconscious you must know what you want and what you don’t want (duh!) 4. To know what you want and what you don’t want, walk the noble twelvefold path....

Do you struggle with the ethics of making a profit?

by on Feb 10, 2012

When we don't charge enough for our services or products and run our businesses on minimal resources, the impression we make on others is not that we offer help but that we need help. Most of us don't really want anything that is not freely and enthusiastically given. Design your business practices so that you deliver your work with authentic generosity so that both you and your clients and customers can thrive.

Living in an Infinite Universe.

by on Feb 10, 2012

Last week I gave a talk at Alex and Allyson Grey’s Chapel of Sacred Mirrors (CoSM) in upstate New York. I based the talk on an interesting story that I had heard on NPR earlier that morning about some new scientific discoveries that support the surprising hypothesis that apparently the material universe is infinite. Included here is an excerpt from my talk (a rough transcript). Enjoy!

Recipe For Love, Ayurveda Style. ~ Kate Lumsden

by on Feb 10, 2012

“Vaji-what?!” No, they’re not some new kama sutra moves; Vajikaranas are the foods revered in Ayurveda for nourishing your reproductive organs, so that you can go all night long (and make some healthy beautiful babies when the time is right).

I am Utterly Obsessed. ~ Chelsea Tegtman

by on Feb 10, 2012

I believe I have become utterly obsessed with my body image and what I am putting into my body. I would probably even be considered to have an "eating disorder." Geeze, what a huge bummer! Or is it? Maybe this realization isn’t such a bummer; maybe it’s the doorway to loving myself again and the window to seeing the true image of the person in the mirror.

High fiber, low carbohydrate diet dramatically lowers inflammatory disease risk. ~ John Phillip

by on Feb 10, 2012

Researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center have published the result of a study showing that a diet rich in slowly digested carbohydrates, such as leafy green vegetables, legumes and other high-fiber foods, significantly reduces markers of inflammation associated with the onset of chronic disease.

Relationships. We Don’t Just Want ‘Em. We Need ‘Em.

by on Feb 10, 2012

As we grow up, move out and create lives independent of our families, we continue to practice expressing our deepest, spiritual beliefs – acceptance, understanding, compassion, selflessness, unconditional love - through the relationships we form.

You Call that an Article? ~ David Regelin

by on Feb 10, 2012

The article had taken a fragment of our two interview sessions, wherein I spoke of the transformational potential of a yoga practice, and turned it into a four page rant and complain session.

The Loneliness of Meditation. ~ Sheila Singh

by on Feb 9, 2012

After more than six months of consistent practice, my meditation has become an almost lonely place of self observation. I watch as various thoughts fire off, one at a time. And each time I return back to my breath. Trying not to judge, to anticipate, to linger. Just returning to the breath.

If You Think You Know…Think Again. ~ Jeri Senor

by on Feb 9, 2012

How does the infinite become finite? Can the Absolute ever be known? This is the great mystery. The conundrum that has faced those who have attempted to unravel it since, well… since forever.

Shattered Glass. ~ Deb Caplin

by on Feb 9, 2012

As I was carefully picking the pieces up, I was struck by all the different colors dancing around the room and the amazing array of shapes, as well. What struck me in that very moment was that while imperfect, the beauty I was enjoying was created as a result of that imperfection.

Love of Cheese.

by on Feb 9, 2012

Now I allow myself to have natural cheese made with full-fat milk I am sated by the high quality fats, proteins and nutrients. This satisfaction leads to lower consumption. Moderation is the result. And moderation is the key to health.
