When we don't charge enough for our services or products and run our businesses on minimal resources, the impression we make on others is not that we offer help but that we need help. Most of us don't really want anything that is not freely and enthusiastically given. Design your business practices so that you deliver your work with authentic generosity so that both you and your clients and customers can thrive.210 views

Being a writer is much like giving birth. A seed is planted. You're excited, you make preparations, you nourish the seed carefully, anxiously awaiting for it to mature. Finally, the time has come to introduce your creation to the world. It's scary. And messy. It's hard pushing your love out into the big scary world. There's even some screaming and some bloodshed.568 views

People often ask me what made me decide to give up my consulting-career and live the uncertain life of a social entrepreneur. My answer is that it is because I am a stubborn fool. Foolish enough to try things that many people say are impossible: building a business with thousands of illiterate, unorganized farmers in Ghana, or trying to make money with Internet in Africa, which most experts say is impossible. And I am stubborn enough to continue trying, even when things are tough.250 views

How big should a goal be? What does it mean to set goals mindfully? There's no telling how big your right-sized goal will be until you pay attention to aspiration, receivability, and gratitude. It could be much smaller or larger than you first anticipated. What is certain is that it will be squarely in the middle of what is possible for you at this place and time.384 views

Working hard doesn't make you tired. Believing that you should dream smaller; believing that you should be less passionate; believing that you are too small, too poor, or too ordinary to change the world--all those things will exhaust you.1,481 views

Pretty much, you need a product line called Property of Facebook. Technically, it is sort of your property and hence, you should take advantage. These products should be inspired by my poetic lines entitled Property of Facebook, which I've created entirely out of facebook statuses.681 views

I do wonder if anyone is any happier now that we buy more? Do the 105 extra minutes we get on the limited edition DVD really add anything to the film? Have we forgotten how to do anything without getting out our wallets?838 views

it is irresponsible to live in a false and isolated microcosm. The fashion industry, celebrities, and the media are looked up to and are used as a guide for many on how to live life, a guide that is being used more and more and we further disconnect ourselves from our own realities and instead rely on what is external.6,853 views

Unlike other girls in 1990s Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, Azaada Khan walked with her head uncovered and her gait fearless. She changed her name to that of a boy’s; her attire and haircut followed, all so she would be allowed to attend school in a country where girls could be punished by law for doing so.679 views

Do I think we are going through a flowering of human consciousness? I don’t know. The mandate is to actively work on such a great awakening, right now, with every cell of our being, give it everything we’ve got.We can’t wait for governments, individual politicians, Whole Foods, or elephant journal. We can’t wait for anybody! Whether it’s inevitable or the longest shot in the world. Let’s completely offer 100 percent of everything we have to that possibility. I believe that. I believe I would be doing that even if there was no chance.361 views

As a reader of elephant journal, it is likely you have purchased Horizon Organic Milk, or Silk soy milk recently. Who knew they were owned by the same company, White Wave, who is now owned by Dean Foods? I sure didn’t.Even though food companies like Dean Foods are acquiring companies demonstrating Right-Livelihood, like White Wave, it is still disturbing that the industry is moving closer and closer to being monopolized. The loss of integrity in the organic food industry, along with Monsanto's rising is a eminent crisis that will affect our generation very soon.653 views

Every Friday, my boyfriend and his buddies get together and make a meal, drink some beer, watch a game and make music. They go to the local grocery store and usually pick up a pack of the cheap chicken wings or slabs of steak, and split the cost. It's simple. Affordable. Something that everyone can enjoy. Unless you have seen what goes on in slaughterhouses.288 views

Some of the best classes I have ever had were with unknown yogis, who were just passionate about yoga and not so overly enmeshed in the business of yoga. Just because a yogi is a killer self-promoter, doesn't mean they are a bad yogi, necessarily. But it doesn't mean they are the best yogi for you, either.251 views

Lately, though, I’m beginning to see that not all yoga teachers feel that their training is a lifelong commitment. I now realize that not all yoga teachers consider themselves teachers or anything other than a fitness instructor who happens to also teach yoga. What concerns me is the pumping out of new yoga teachers who attend a 6-hour workshop and walk out with a piece of paper that says “certified” yoga teacher712 views
