Thank you for that last email. I had to sit and think about when I have, in truth, been all of those things because, sure enough, I am prone to the darkness within just like you.52 views

Now imagine that YOGA had, at its disposal, million-dollar budgets and a bevy of branding experts. With those resources, it could create demand for yoga the way DeBeers creates demand for diamonds, the way Frito-Lay creates demand for Doritos, not to mention the way the two Toms sell toothpaste and shoes.34 views

Two or three times each week, a group of ten to fifteen of us file into a small mirrored room with a hardwood floor and soft ambient lighting. We claim our usual spaces, roll out our mats, and begin the process of warming our muscles, loosening our joints and preparing our bodies for the workout that will soon begin.40 views

I was so in it, recording and refining the messages, that I did not find it odd that my yoga book began, “Unless you have just had lurid hotel-room sex or are acting in an episode of Mad Men, there is surely an uneven power dynamic between one person sitting naked on the toilet, and the other hovering above in a dark suit.”116 views

Yoga is not a passive practice. Finding balance and flexibility comes from the selective engagement of certain muscles depending on the poses. Learning about how to activate these muscles is a long and never-ending journey. Enjoy it.75 views

It’s time to wake up. Contrary to what advertisers and most major religions teach, happiness is not “out there”. There is no power outside of ourselves that can make us happy. Happiness has never been out there and yet day after day, year after year we go “out there” looking for it.125 views

I’ve been giving some thought to gurus, teachers and our relationships with them. I’ve been thinking about our tendency to give away our power. To invest heavily in someone else seems to reduce our ability to invest in ourselves.594 views

Just as certain combinations of notes make chords that uplift and others create discord, so certain behaviors are in line with goodness and some are not. There are real forces in this universe of harmony and joy and uplift and there are forces of confusion and disharmony and violence and pain that draw unhealthy hearts like a magnet. There are ways of being that bring smiles to the eyes of children, and there are ways of being that result in conflict among men.1,901 views

My guess is if the Buddha did New Years’ Resolutions, the Four Noble Truths would’ve looked like this: 1. In life there is time-wasting 2. The origin of time-wasting is unconsciousness 3. To stop being unconscious you must know what you want and what you don’t want (duh!) 4. To know what you want and what you don’t want, walk the noble twelvefold path....134 views

Even here in a place like this it is easy to find gratitude for many things, like having yard every day, for having programs so we can rehabilitate ourselves, for having many like-minded people I can talk to, for getting three meals a day, for the sunshine…”1,119 views

Catch the live music/yoga class with Denver's own Denise Cook and Hilary O'Toole at 6 p.m., or come for the Kirtan (sacred chant) concert at 8 p.m. The call and response form of mantra chanting known as Kirtan is a consciousness-transforming practice, directing the singers to vanish into the song as drops merge into the ocean.161 views

These songs, like the 30 Best Songs of the Year that should be on your Playlist now, are include a few that I somehow left off which happen to be written for the majority of us in mind: imperfectly perfect beings who are not quite in the place they want to be with love and thick in messy stuff of life.1,809 views

Having a few good friends (and I don’t mean 1,000 plus Facebook friends) is important in today’s fast-paced world. As young people delay marriage and move far from family for work or educational reasons, we find ourselves relying more heavily on female friends than women of generations past. We talk. We have coffee or lunch. We dish about really creepy dates or bad jobs. Think of the popularity of shows featuring platonic pals, like Sex and the City. Friends become one’s surrogate family.391 views

After experiencing a situation like this before with Nickelback, I was very surprised to find out that a multinational corporation actually admitted that they basically copied a video on YouTube for commercial gain. I have found out, subsequently, that this is a much more common occurrence than anyone might expect... So rather than causing a permanent mark on my forehead by slapping it every time it happens, I'm trying to look at this particular situation as an opportunity.250 views

Being a writer is much like giving birth. A seed is planted. You're excited, you make preparations, you nourish the seed carefully, anxiously awaiting for it to mature. Finally, the time has come to introduce your creation to the world. It's scary. And messy. It's hard pushing your love out into the big scary world. There's even some screaming and some bloodshed.568 views

The studio will close and the state government will step in to regulate all aspects of Teacher Training the same way they regulate all aspects of becoming a licensed psychotherapist....The problem for me is that 90% of what's being called yoga in America has little to do with the original purpose of yoga, uniting with the divine.110 views
