What If? {Poem}

sad broken heart girl deviantart

What if I say I love you in spite of what you deny?

Will you stay or will you go after watching the tears I cry?

What if I say I love you even when we’re in a fight? When your insults slice into my heart, when you won’t touch me at night?

What if I say I love you when I know I’m not alone? That your touch extends to others, but to me is dead and gone?

What if I say I love you when I hear words you do not mean? I see your eyes when you repeat them, words even you can’t believe.

What if I say I love you but I know that we can’t last? That our destinies are separate, I’m broken from the past?

What if I say I love you though I suspect you do not care? That I know my only purpose served was when no one else was there?

What if I say I love you but it’s time for me to find my way? To honor my own instincts in spite of what you say?

What if I say I love you and that I always will, but staying together is destroying us; battles fought uphill?

What if I say I love you but my heart breaks everyday? It’s not you, not me, but us, and nothing seems to change?

What if I say I love you after reading all of this? Would you still convince me of the impossible or would you finally relent?

What if I say I love you? Would you finally set me free? To lose you from my life may be the only path to me.

What if I say I love you?

What would you say?
