5 Tips for Creating an Office Space You Love — Lisa Laporte

Your productivity in the workplace may be influenced by the kind of office environment you operate in. Scientists have established a close correlation between the nature of the office environment and an individual’s motivation and dedication to workplace obligations. It is, therefore, crucial to ensure that you work from an office that is well-designed and optimized for comfort and efficiency. Here are some of the factors to consider when designing an office space that you love.

Incorporate nature

Working in an office where outside natural scenery can be visible greatly enhances your moods and can motivate you to perform better. Incorporating some elements of greenery into your office helps you connect with nature in a unique way that eradicates instances of workplace fatigue. This aim can be achieved by having large windows to let in natural light, having some potted plants on the window and various strategic points inside the office, and hanging large photographs of nature on the wall.

Have a variety of designs

Working in an office that is structurally and architecturally designed in different ways can help motivate you when working, as opposed to having an office space that is confined to one design where boredom may easily set in. Variety can be enforced by having different sizes of rooms, rooms with a variety of office designs, multiple kinds of furniture, and different office layouts.

Have communal spaces

Socializing in the workplace is an important aspect that helps create a friendly working environment. You may want to design your office in a way that allows and promotes such communal engagements by having large conference rooms, an open tea room area, a common fitness center, or even an incorporated television room where people can bond and share ideas.

Have a built-in exclusive space for yourself

You should also balance between the communal spaces and personal spaces in your office. This balance can be achieved by having a special room that excludes everyone else in the organization. Such a room is highly suitable in cases where you need to relax and reflect on your own. It helps you to regain some mental focus and be extremely productive when you really need to get some work done.

Involve everyone

When designing and building your office space, you should focus on ensuring everyone’s needs are optimally met. Your workforce should be diverse and inclusive of people with disabilities, which means the office design should feature their needs by having ramps in addition to stairwells and other features to help someone who may have a type of disability.
