What is social anxiety ?

It is said that an emotion which is characterized by feelings of tension, fear, excessive nervousness, apprehension and worried thoughts .
These are kind of disorders that alter how a person processes his emotions and behave, also causing physical symptoms. It affects our day to day living.

Social anxiety is also same as anxiety. When you feel uncomfortable in social situations, you think people are judging you. Everyone has experienced social anxiety in their life. All people have some or the other fear. Some have fear that they will not get a new job, meeting their friend’s parents, going on dates and many more. But they don’t know that social anxiety will become a problem when it will become frequent or intense that it gets in the way of important things in your life.

Common situations in which people experience anxiety :

  • Speaking in front of a group
  • Talking to strangers
  • Standing in a crowd
  • Speaking to authority figures
  • Eating or drinking in front of others
  • Talking to someone you find attractive
  • Going alone out for a movie

My Experience :

My husband bought a concert ticket as my birthday gift. I was very happy seeing the ticket as I enjoy seeing the live band performing, but at the same time I am anxious leading up for the concert as I suffer from agoraphobia. Standing in a crowd of hundreds of people, large theaters, stadiums and auditoriums sends me into a panic attack. Whenever someone asks me to come along with them for a movie, concert or anything, it seems to be out of the question, which doesn’t have to be.

To have absolutely zero anxiety, you should take the following precautions

1. Take your anxiety medication. Try to focus on the reason you are there and most of the time you’ll be fine.

2. Take your friend along with you. By doing so you will feel supportive.

3. Try to reserve the tickets of box seats as I’ve found that getting box seats has been a big help. I know they are little bit costly but you will get a safe place.

4. Take a proper sleep – Try to take a proper sleep before a concert. I have experienced that if haven’t had a proper rest during my long days, then I’m more likely to go in a panic attack.

5. Listen to the songs before going for a concert as I have experienced that if you don’t know the songs or the lyrics, you will get frustrated with loud music, heavy bass and drums, and will not able to enjoy the performance.

6. Keep yourself busy. Like you can chew the gums which will keep you busy and will calm your nerves.

7. Try to visit to the venue where the concert will going to be held. This will help you a lot in overcoming your anxiety.

So there you have it. Having concert anxiety can be embarrassing and frustrating, but I hope you found these tips helpful. Remember you are never alone you is facing this. Cheers and enjoy!
