When I suggested to my husband that I need a guinea pig for a piece I want to write about How To Trim Your Partner, he couldn’t help but look at me with skepticism oozing from him. Since our last grooming session with each other didn’t go as planned, I couldn’t blame him needing some – actually, a lot of convincing to let me groom his “Royal Sir”. Especially when I had gotten a new waxing pot and Aloe scented wax and suggested to him we wax his beard. All I can say is that after two weeks of ingrown hairs and really sensitive skin, we both agreed that I suck at waxing beards.
Shaving with a razor is the most popular method of wrangling those wiry hairs. Always start with a clean, sharp blade to avoid infection, irritation, and nicks. But you can use other methods, for example, trimming dry with hair clippers. You can also only use a comb and sharp scissors or even waxing your partner (not recommended if you are untrained- trust me!).
Below I have put together a small manual on how you can trim your partner’s pubic area (and make it as sensual and sexy as you possibly can!).
Set The Mood
Although it’s highly recommended to have good lighting when using a razor or other sharp objects around these sensitive areas, it’s always a good idea to light a few scented candles in the room. If you are using the bathroom area, run a hot bath for your partner in advance to create some steam for ambiance.
Clean Your Tools
Keep a separate trimming kit for your Southern Regions. Multitasking with tools you’ve used on other parts of your body can introduce infection. Before each use, soak your implements in a disinfectant such as Barbicide for at least 10 minutes, or clean them thoroughly with rubbing alcohol. Make sure your scissors or razors have sharp blades.
Trim Excess Hair
If your partner hasn’t trimmed for quite a while, take a pair of scissors and a comb and trim the hair shorter. This will prevent the blades from clogging up too quickly and can assist in preventing cuts and razor burn.
Soak In Warm Water
Help your partner into the bath or shower (or join them!). Start by giving them a relaxing massage and lathering them with bubbles. Slowly move your way down to their sensitive parts and slowly start rubbing soap into the pubic hair and skin. This way you get to make sure no bacteria caused-bumps will occur and you get to do a bit of foreplay! Using a loofah or a gentle scrub, exfoliate the area you plan to groom. Exfoliation removes any dead skin cells or sebum clogging the hair follicles. This provides your razor or other tools the smoothest surface possible to glide across. Remember to use a natural or allergen-free soap to avoid burning and/ or irritation on the skin.
The Wetter The Better
Keep the area you plan to shave moist. Lubricating the area with shaving cream or soap will minimize friction and nicks. I also suggest trying coconut oil by rubbing it between hands to melt and then applying it to the area you wish to shave.
Go With The Flow
Always shave in the direction the hair is growing. When going against the grain the blade will first lift the hair and then slice it off possibly causing a razor burn. Take your time and use caution. A hasty job could earn your partner a nasty cut or a trip to the ER!
Final Tips & Tricks:
Choose products designed for sensitive skin and avoid applying directly to the vaginal opening, anal opening, or urethra. Rinse your razor after each swipe.
- For the general pubic area. For the area above your genitals and your bikini or brief line, pull skin taut and shave in the direction of hair growth.
- For shaving the penis. Hold the shaft upwards and shave in slow, even strokes toward the base. If you’re aiming for hairless balls too, pull scrotum skin taut and make delicate downward strokes.
- For a fur-free vulva. Work with the labial folds on one side first and then the other. Hold skin taut and shave in downward strokes using a gentle touch.
- For beautifying a bushy tail. You can gently shave the hair off your butt cheeks in a downward motion. For your crack and perineum, place a handheld mirror on the floor and stand over it with legs hip distance apart. Get into an easy squat. Pull one cheek taut and shave in gentle outward and downward strokes before working with the other side.
Shaving After-Care
We all know that aftercare with regards to any intimacy happening between partners is very important. Shaving your partner’s pubic area is no different. The experience of exposing yourself to your partner can be quite scary and get your partner overly excited at the same time!
Slow things down to an end with these basic care tips:
- After rinsing off the shaving solution, pat dry the area that has been shaved with a clean, dry towel.
- Massage a non-scented soothing oil into the skin, I suggest coconut oil (DO NOT USE BABY OIL or a BARRIER CREAM as this will only block the pores and prevent the skin from being able to ‘breathe’)
- End the trimming session with a Sensual Massage and spend some valuable time with your partner afterward by cuddling or having a relaxed meal together.
