Some say that self-care and self-love is just a reflection of vanity, that it is no more than narcissism, and one that be taken very judiciously. However, I just couldn’t easily agree.
Rather than vanity, self-love is no short than a necessity. It is something that any living soul should embark on. It is embedded in our genes to survive and part of that survival is living a happy, fulfilling and purposeful life. And one cannot simply do so without ensuring thy self’s wellness first.
True, it can be a vanity, but only if one focuses on the wrong things as motivation to self-care. A self-love without purpose and only ends with oneself alone is indeed narcissism. That is, trying to look good for others to see, in hope of envy or just simply to show off. But, when the reason behind goes beyond the person, which is, making your best self an instrument to serve a higher purpose without solely considering what you can get in return, then self-love becomes a selfless act.
By taking good care of yourself, you can do your job better, you can be of aid to those who are in need, you can maximize your potential, and your capacity to engage and be a part of a productive cause will not be jeopardized.
Parents can raise their young and ensure that they see them to adulthood. Teachers can educate more and mould better leaders of the future. Workers and businessmen can continue to provide for their families and community. Artists can move millions. Preachers can spread goodness to many, especially those who are in dire need. Doctors can only save more the moment they are well taken-cared of as well. And you can multiply the good things you already do after you make self-care a priority too.
Whether its your passion, an advocacy or profession, you can become a beacon that can inspire those around you by taking care of you.
Seriously engage in self-love now, and see that everything else will fall into place right after. ❤️
