Ashley Stiven Shares Why Recovery Time is Important for Your Body and Mind

Whether you are a fitness nut or someone who only works out once in a while, it is essential to remember that your body needs time to recover. Even if you don’t work out, recovery from the stresses of daily life is critical. There are two forms of recovery: short-term and long-term recovery. Short-term is focused on the immediate needs of the body after a workout, and long-term recovery is focused on the overall state of your body. Each is important to maintaining a healthy mind and body. Here are some tips to help your body recover and why it’s so important.

Sleep

When you don’t get enough sleep, you know that you probably won’t be able to get through your day as you usually would. Now, your body needs sleep to not only recover from your day but also any activity or workout that you may have done. During sleep is when the body heals and resets for the day ahead. Athletes who get more sleep are seen to have better coordination and performance. Sleep is so important that it impacts so many parts of your wellbeing, including mental health and muscular recovery.

Hydration and Nutrition

Water is a form of fuel that we all need in our bodies every day. You should be sure to maintain proper hydration throughout the day and especially after workouts. The more you exercise, the more water you need to recover and heal your body and mind. Along with hydration, your body needs the right nutrients to recover and repair itself. Be mindful of the types of food you need and when. If you plan to have an intense workout, be sure you have enough carbs to maintain the energy required.

Posture

You may not think about it often, but posture can have a significant impact on your body. If you complete an exercise, like squats or weight-lifting, with poor posture, it can harm your body and cause an injury. Always be sure to maintain good form while exercising but don’t forget your posture throughout the day. Especially if you have a desk job, bad posture can hurt your body throughout the day.
