The people who make your life difficult or who show up in a challenging way are giving you a powerful gift. Every one of those people are helping you to think about how YOU want to show up in the world. Funny thing, though – so often, the behaviors we react most strongly against are sometimes the things we’re most afraid to see in ourselves. When we realize that we’re passing on our values to the young minds in our life, it becomes vitally important to be aware of our language, nonverbal communication, and our actions so that we don’t unconsciously teach them that body hate is normal. Girls and boys don’t just grow up hating their bodies; it’s taught. So when you’re deciding how to be in the world, make sure to save some compassion for those parts of yourself that you may tend to repress.
