The first time I heard someone talk about a “high vibration” state, I imagined one of those “good vibes only” bumper stickers. It sounded a little far-fetched and a little hokey, to be honest.
Now, after exploring the concept and seeing what it means in my own life, I understand how important it is for well-being, expanding awareness, and manifestation. Let’s first break down what this actually means.
A high vibration state is simply being connected and grounded in high emotional states. Think positivity, joy, love, and creativity as opposed to lower vibrational states like jealousy, anger, or fear. There are concrete steps we can take to shift into a state of high vibration.
Before we get started, I want to encourage you to first accept whatever you’re feeling. It’s important to take this step before working on shifting into a more positive emotional state.
Becoming mindful of our feelings, and accepting them without judgment, is important. No one can live in a high vibration state all the time, and that’s not the goal here. We’re all working towards understanding and awareness of our feelings!
Deep breathing
This is helpful when we’re in a place of fear or anger. Taking just a few deep breaths has the power to calm our central nervous system. When we take a step back and simply focus on the breath, we put some distance between us and whatever negative emotional charge we’re experiencing. Even three deep breaths can help!
Meditation
We can take that deep breathing one step further. Using a guided meditation, or closing our eyes and focusing on our breath for five minutes, can quiet our minds. This allows us to pause before continuing down the path of anger, fear, envy, or any other state of low energy.
Visualization
Close your eyes and imagine something positive happening in the future. Maybe it’s finishing a project you’ve been working on. Maybe it’s signing three new clients in the next month. Or maybe it’s receiving an unexpected check in the mail. There are no limits on what this visualization can be! While you’re visualizing, enjoy the positive feelings associated with this exercise. Lean into the joy, the love, the gratitude. These feelings will help you feel good, but they’ll also send a powerful message to the Universe. This is a great way to practice manifesting.
Go outside
There’s something about nature that automatically shifts us into a higher vibration. A long walk can do wonders! If taking a hike isn’t an option, try sitting outside with a cup of morning coffee. Enjoy the feel of the wind, the sun on your face, or the cool air around you. Try going for a five minute walk, or take a few laps around the office.
Gratitude
When stuck in that lower vibrational place, try writing a gratitude list. Try for ten things you’re grateful for at that moment. Even if it’s just “I’m alive right now,” this practice helps shift us into a more positive space.
Listen to music
This is the perfect opportunity to put on a playlist of high-energy, positive songs. Maybe it’s dance songs, maybe it’s 90’s pop – whatever pumps you up or makes you feel good, listen to it! Music is an incredibly powerful way to change our mood.
Remember that everyone experiences negative emotions that are on a lower frequency, so this isn’t about beating ourselves up for having those emotions. It’s simply recognizing what you’re feeling, then taking one of these steps to shift into a different emotional state that’s on a higher frequency.
This takes practice, so celebrate each and every time you use one of these steps. Before you know it, you’ll be shifting to a higher vibration without even realizing it!
