Every time we watched a Hollywood TV show, dealing with the problems of teenagers that accompany that age, we found an underlying tension of discussing the enormous problems that make them do, what they do. Or what they go through at that span of their life. But it was hard for the gigantic industry to talk about reality. The only thing that was attractive for them to talk about was, “Did you do ‘it’ yet?”(meaning did they have sex yet?) Which eventually developed a pressure on the mass to derive education about their age’s desire for exploring sex via unreliable sources. Though most of the adults are aware of the half information circulated about Sex via popular culture, they seem to be in denial about the problem. Netflix has tackled this exceptionally well by bringing in a revolutionary TV show called Sex Education.
Sex Education uses humour and gentleness to talk about sex, body image, homosexuality & issues that are victims of society’s judgment. The show talks about sex not as a theory but as practicality. It addresses masturbation, fetishes and different kinds of sexuality as a celebration of the uniqueness of each human being. We find a specific type of jokes in the meme culture we thrive in, but how many are educative. I mean if humour is of Sex education kind, people would want to swim in the no-judgment society. In a world where online dating and porn is creating sexual inhibition, we need a far more open society to accept every human as they are. Having said that, Sex Education is also doing its bit in killing rape culture one season at a time with its portrayal of how consent matters.
