Poor Perfectionism

As a growth and profit strategist, I am often asked, “How can I make more money?”

When I give people the answer, I am often met with a swirl of reasons why they cannot take that step of action right then.  Most of the time they have a ready list of things they must do before they can do what I just told them to do.

That is the reason they lack money.

It is that simple.

I can promise you that imperfect action is better than no action.

If you wait for the perfect timing or things to be better, you will keep procrastinating. Because, truth is you are hiding behind your procrastinations trying to act busy, but in fact you fear the action.  You fear stepping out and just doing it so you must make up reasons to justify not doing it.  I get it. I was there.

I used to think if things were not just right I could not put it out there. If my wording wasn’t perfect. If my graphics weren’t right. What would people think? They would judge me. They wouldn’t buy from me. They would think I was a fraud. They would laugh at me. The list goes on and on. I did all the right things to cost of a lot (and I mean A LOT) of money. Then I sat back and thought the results would come. I mean I did all the making it pretty, picking the words, creating the perfect platforms…but instead…crickets. I was blown away. How could this happen? Truth is, I didn’t even see if the market was ready for what I had to offer. I, as a professional woman of 19 years knew better too! Then I took all the fluff and threw it out the window. I really got in there and found the need I could serve because it was in my area of expertise. I offered a solution to fill the gap and all of a sudden the results piled in. I had no fancy website, not a single fancy platform, nothing. I had me and the solution of results I was giving to these people.  I found out…that was enough.  That was all they wanted. They didn’t care if my site was lovely. They cared about getting results. They cared about having the solution they were seeking.

Perfection will keep you from making money as long as you let it enslave you in its grasp of fear. One cannot make sense of the way our human ego trips us up. We can hide behind the need to always be signing up for the newest training instead of practicing what we know, we can always be ready to make our website beautiful before we launch a new product, or to get over all the personal items going on in life before we can commit to our business. It is all really just a web of lies we have created for ourselves so we can feel comfortable not taking the actions out of our own way. It gives us something to hide behind. I see it all the time.

Honestly, as long as you keep hiding, you will continue to not make money. You business will continue to stay stuck. You will continue to not get results. You will continue to wish for a different life while suffering in the present one. I can promise you that if you start taking the action steps…you will get results. Did I say they will always work wonderfully and you will be a millionaire overnight? Heck No!

However, you will be one step closer than if you stayed stuck in the never Neverland of perfectionism.

Jump all in. Get dirty. Feel the fear, but take the steps. Lean into what you can do today to change your situation and quit waiting for a better day to come. You do not need a beautiful website to build a business (sorry to the graphic designers who I love), but it is the truth. You can make money and build it all beautiful later. If you get all tangled up in making it pretty instead of selling it to make money you will be stuck in a major rut in your business right from the start.  What happens when you make it all lovely and send it out to the world…and you get crickets back? What then? Spend money making something else beautiful and same result? You just did something the opposite of how business works. You must have a demand in order to supply. You can have supply all day long, but if there is no demand for that item you will be sitting there with nothing in return, but bills to pay for all the things you bought to make it lovely. It is the basics of economics. Any millionaire will tell you the same thing. Anyone who has grown a business to epic levels will second this one hundred percent.

We make it hard. We over complicate it. We stand in our own way.

So, want to make money? Take the steps of actions. Quit making excuses. Quit reaching for the next best thing. Make sound business decisions that are going to bring you an ROI (return on investment) that are worth it and then DO IT! Make it happen for yourself. Quit hiding…

Get out there. Do your research for the market. See the need. Create a solution to fill that need and offer it. It is truly that simple. You are the one thing keeping you poor. Once you figure out this formula you will never fear the unknown again, because you will know that No matter what is thrown your way, you will find a need and fill it.

Commerce is that simple. Money is that simple. Abundance and clients are that simple.

I can promise you that perfectionism will keep you poor and I am pretty sure you do not want to be that. So, hang up the hat of perfect and just take action. Find the freedom in doing it. Once you have found the freedom from perfectionism you will be unstoppable. Cheers my imperfect colleague! Get out there and make it happen!
