Mother Earth

And after all she’d created
She burst with pride
“I must bring visitors…..to see it’s beauty!”
And so they came
And “ooh’d and aah’d”
They explored her creation high and low
Left nothing behind
And she felt pride
And they felt glee
Until one day she looked to see
The damage they’d done to her beauty
Once pristine, now unclean
She began to weep,
“Don’t do this to me…”
They laughed and balked,
“You have so much more!”, they gawked
Exhausted by their arrogance and greed
She began to whimper and plead…
“Don’t do this to me…“
And so one day she’d had enough and she began to storm and rage
“They all must be caged!”
With one little droplet she spread throughout the air, they suddenly began to care….
Scampering inside, they began to hide
They were overtook by fear and grief
Longing for relief
And during their despair, she began to repair
All the damage they had done
Power and greed no longer won
Humbled by their stay in place
They no longer took for granted the simple embrace
