An Open Letter To My Nation

To My Beloved Nation:

As your birthday draws to a close, I am reminded of just how lucky I am to live within your borders. When my uncle Omar made the decision to move my family and I out of a war-torn Somalia, he could have chosen any other western country. He didn’t even hesitate in choosing Canada.
This speaks to the reputation you have around the world as a welcoming and diverse nation. You are a beacon of hope to those who seek a better life and a place to lay their heads at night. You are my home, the only home I’ve ever known. You are a nation where a blind immigrant such as myself can learn the life skills needed to thrive in a sited world, become educated, and live life on his own entrepreneurial terms. You are a nation where someone can go from barely speaking the language, to representing many in the house of commons. This is your day my beautiful Canada. May god bless you and all that you stand for.
Forever yours:
Mubarak
