Ashes – A Grief Transformed

I wrote the following poem in the summer during the start of the pandemic here in Canada .

During this time  I was living and working from home providing therapy and assisting with individuals experiencing grief and loss.

My own grief revisited too this time offering new gifts .

I published and wrote a great deal during this period of time .

This is a piece that came out of this volume of work.

Everyone asks for advice about grieving and we as humans want to fast track difficult things .

There is no handbook for grief .

It is an unique as you are.

My only words of wisdom  is  to be gentle with your grief and let yourself mourn.

Ashes –

The Heart that kept time to mine

Be still , this ache for all I have is ashes

All that is left is

Dust

You reminded me in youth of love and dust and a heavenly home

I ignored
I ignored your songs and turned away

Restless you walked

The beauty marks on your skin were both constellations and anchors here

How can I forget they are forever etched in my heart as is the beating of your heart

Still I have ashes and so we  both shall return and the echo of the heart that once kept time

You left in the night , in frenzy chasing the light

Still I wept for you , my heart that kept time

We forgave in absolution

Praying to God

Praying for love , life and light

The silver threads and this heart that keeps time

I see you clearly and hear you heart beat within mine
