Clearer Days Ahead: Getting Rid of Covid-19 Brain Fog

The covid-19 pandemic has hit everyone in a range of different ways. Not only has its disrupted lifestyles, it has affected people’s mental health and wellbeing. Emotionally, physically and mentaly the pandemic caused some serious effects, without stating the obvious severity in the effects on people’s health.

Lockdown rules have forced people into their homes to reduce the spread of the virus. Although this has helped to lower the number of new cases and death tolls globally, the by-product of this has resulted in a less stable and more vulnerable population.

Staying at home has created insecure feelings in many which include feeling isolated, as well as feeling increasingly stressed and anxious concerning the future and the pandemic. Some have been hard hit by the pandemic finally, losing jobs, others have had to juggle childcare and working from home and others have been on the front line, working in essential jobs. Due to social distancing rules, many of us have been unable to continue with normal activities, enegaining our brains less creating brain fog.

Brain Fog

As our brain becomes more accustomed to saying at home, they slow down, with a slightly fuzzy feeling which can cause us to forget things altogether. Brain fog can be used to explain feelings of confusion when doing a task or thinking, feeling exhausted or even having a lack of concentration.

It can also be used to explain ‘Quarantine brain’ which is based on how your brain is dealing with and responding to everything going on around you. Watching the news can lead to higher anxiety and stress causing your brain to enter fog mode. The uncertainty brought on by the pandmeic causes these feelings because there is only so much our brains can take. Fortunately there are some things we can do to get rid of brian fog symptoms and increase mental clarity.

Getting rid of brian fog

Getting rid of brain fog also means taking time for yourself in the chaos around you. Doing these simple exercises can help to get your brain on the right track.

Mindfulness meditation

Mindfulness can help you regain focus, alertness and concentration all whilst riding your brina of fog. Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of yourself in the present moment. It helps to calms you mind and your body by concentrating on the atmosphere and environment sound you while helping you focus and breath. Our bodies are currently in survival mode thanks to the pandemic which means our bodies and minds are not in their natural states of calmness. The advantages of mindfulness mentions helps to calm our minds and quiet any thoughts, allowing it to reboot and work effectively. Making time in your day for mindfulness is a great way to get over brian fog.

Getting a good night’s sleep

Sleep is one of the most vital parts of our day. Getting a good night sleep impacts our minds and bodies in huge ways. During sleep our body not only rest, but repair and regenerate themselves by releasing hormones which help to keep our bodies balanced. High levels of stress created by the pandemic have caused sleepless nights.

Although it is easier said than done, it’s important to try and get between 6-8 hours of sleep a day. Keeping to a routine can also help your body, especially when it is dealing with high levels of stress, sleeping at the same time everyday will let it know rest is coming, allowing it to function properly during the day. Although many do not advise the use of smartphones before bed, there are some great apps that can help you sleep.

Positive outlook and self talk

Feeling down and out of loop with yourself  is completely normal at the moment. You have to remember to not be too hard on yourself and give yourself some time. You have to give yourself time to adjust to this new normal while understanding it.

Talking to yourself positivity is an important part of overcoming brain fog and validating your experiences. It is the inner support that you give yourself that will help you overcome and combat the emotional feeling and anxiousness you are expecting.
