Is Your Child Ready For Sunday School?

Even if you send your child to public school, you can ensure they get a religious education by signing them up for Sunday school. This allows them to receive their religious education on the weekends to avoid interfering with their other studies. Before your child begins taking advantage of this opportunity, there are a few things you should do to prepare them for the experience.

Prepare Your Child for Class

Typically, Sunday school lasts for less than one hour each week, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be treated like any other class. Make sure your child has a good breakfast or lunch, depending on the time of day of the class. You should also find out what supplies your child will need to take to class with them. When you speak with the instructor, be sure to ask about the policy concerning mobile devices as well.

Discuss the Importance of Sunday School

Even though your family attends church every week, a young child might not understand the importance of religion for you. Before they begin Sunday school, you should talk about your beliefs with your child. Help them understand why learning about God and faith is important for them. In talking to your child, be sure to use simple terms that are appropriate for their age. You should also try to keep the discussion positive since you’ll want them to find joy and fulfillment from experience.

Keep Your Child Interested

When you pick your child up from Sunday school each week, be prepared to discuss the experience with them. Ask them questions about the discussions that took place in the class and ask about their classroom activities. You should also find out about homework and projects that they are asked to do outside of the classroom. By keeping your child engaged with their religious education, you can ensure they will be paying closer attention to the lessons. This will keep them open to the Word of God.

You can also prepare your child for Sunday school by reading the bible with them on a nightly basis. Choose a different segment of passages to read each night and leave enough time to discuss the meaning of those passages. When those topics are discussed in Sunday school, your child will be better prepared to contribute to the conversation.
