“Science without conscience is but the ruin of the soul.” ~ Rabelais
Elephant: for humans (and elephants & nature), by humans.
AI: no one asked for it. No one wants it. It threatens jobs, enriches billionaires, and is a danger to the future of the human race.
Elephant hates and fears AI (as do 350+ AI experts, who called it an existential threat to humanity on the order of nuclear war). Sure, tech does displace jobs, but usually it creates new ones, too. We’re not advocating for running around naked in the woods, unless that sounds nice, in which case I’ll meet you there.
But if you actually read good journalism about AI, this is not just another advance. It’s an existential threat to humanity, called such by 150+ AI experts. And it’s pushed on us not by inventors or scientists, but by billionaires greedy for more.
We don’t allow AI on Elephant, either in images or words, unless it’s as an example of AI that we’re criticizing.
In fact, our editors (human beings who get paid because we value their work and don’t undermine their jobs with AI) test every article for traces of AI before sharing it with you, our readers.
So those of you who subscribe: you are paying humans to do good work, craft, for humans. ~ Waylon Lewis
PS: strange to see so many good human beings stanning for greedy billionaires pushing AI on us. I guess that’s how social media has worked, too. We think it’s for us, but we’re the guinea pigs, the product. PPS: the Biden Admin had started the work of putting ethical boundaries around its use. Guess who promptly got rid of them? We should have an option to use it, or not, at the very least. We don’t.
