The Art of Being contains a series of affirmations, ideas and thoughts designed to help us wake up to our spiritual side. Each chapter contains a set of practices at the end as a means to help the reader become more mindful and put the lesson of that specific chapter into practice.
There are multiple ways in which to use this book: as a one a day for 101 days, or by opening randomly to different essays, or some combination thereof. While Jones makes it a point to discuss the use of the word “God” in the text as a neutral term, the book still contains a certain amount of Judeo-Christian overtone to it, which can be distracting at times, primarily because Jones intends the book for a wider audience. However, the book does contain value to anyone seeking to further their spiritual and personal development, regardless of spiritual beliefs. From Tarcher/Penguin and available at your local, independent bookstore. (Shop local, shop independent, and tell ’em you saw it on Elephant Journal!)
