We are All Doing Our Part During this Incredible Unprecedented Pandemic

I am inspired.

I am inspired by America.  I am inspired by my company.  I am inspired by the people who are out on the front lines every day during this crisis.  I am grateful to them.

And I sometimes think that those people are braver than me.  I am at home where I am supposed to be.  I am working, writing, being part of wonderful communities on webinars, and trying to comfort those that need comforting and making others laugh who need to laugh.

But still, I had this thought.  I am not doing my part because I am not out there putting myself at risk like those others.  I am less than them.

So I thought about it.

I was not trained for those jobs.  I am not a doctor, nurse, policeman, fireman, or grocery store worker.   (I’m sure I missed some – forgive me.)

So what was I trained for, really?

I guess I have trained to be an American.  I was trained to allow others to be however they are.  To love people unconditionally.  To be with them when they cry.  To somehow make them laugh.  To pass on funny jokes or inspiring music.  To embrace people and comfort them.

That is what I was trained for.  And that is what I am doing.

We are all doing our part.  Whatever that part is.

I am proud to be an American.  I am proud to be part of the world community.  We are all in this together.  Let’s keep rising to the occasion.  Because we can.  Because we are our greatest selves right now.

Let’s keep on keeping on.  Because that’s who we are.
