In today’s technology driven world, distraction at every turn, it’s all too easy to stop short of turning inward and tuning in. Mordern day human craves high stimulation and fast results. Finding any information at the touch of a screen; highly intelligent beings. But is that all we strive to be? To fill our brain with more information, being reiterated, like a computer? Where can new information come in? We are so tapped into the matrix, how do we get out?
It seems we are headed away from the natural world and towards an unknown future.
The one that the movies, shows, and books portrayed. A world increasingly relying on technology is coming to pass as the year 2020 has sped us up into digital lockdown with no expectations of slowing down.
I, myself have lived on and off the grid during these years of increased focus of being “online”. While off the grid and out of the matrix, I could see how far removed I became from this digital world. People were talking about things I couldn’t relate to, and asking me if I knew this or that person (from social media), with my response confused and unsure as to why I would know them.
To be honest, I have always had a deep resistance to this modern way of life. I see people engaging with their phones more than the person in front of them. It always seems more important to get the right photo rather than live present in the moment that life is offering up.
In my hopes that one day it would all lay off a bit, it has in fact grown exponentially. My resistance to this technological epidemic, is proving to be a lost cause.
During this most memorable year in history, there is more time in isolation and less time spent in the social environments of the past. People are becoming even more reliant on their devices, connecting virtually rather than face to face.
I am at a point where I know I must adapt in order to stay afloat during these strange times. This is the direction our society and our world is heading. There is no turning back, as this is the evolution of the species of modern day human.
But then I question it. Not in the old ways of resistance as much as with wonder and curiosity. How long can we go on this way? There was an episode on Black Mirror, where the guy doesn’t even leave his chair, only living in the dream of VR, an image in his mind.
So, is this too our fate?
My previous hopes that one day it would dissipate have been reshaped. I will not be left behind, and so I find myself in front of a screen, using these tools to try to stay with the times. I see the addiction. I see the distraction. I see that it keeps one in a strange state of neither here nor there, brain buzzing, while surfing the inter-web. Jumping from window to window, scrolling from page to page, photo to photo without even realizing what is being consumed or put out.
I still hold true to what I know is of most value for me. It is nature, the earth, and the elements. I am learning to fuse these worlds together instead of rejecting one or the other.
It is more vital now than ever that we reconnect to nature. It sounds simple, yet it is in simplicity that sometimes the most profound can be discovered.
It does seem technology is taking over. However, balance in the duality of these forces at play can be cultivated. It takes awareness, discernment, and will to shift with the times, yet be able to stay in tune with the natural world.
I fear if we don’t find this balance, we will become hollowed out humans
Get outside, drop into your senses, feel the air on your skin, the earth underneath your feet. Swim in the waters and be purified.
Tune into the energies around you, and you will begin to tune into your Self.
It’s a beautiful thing that science is coming in, “proving” that we in fact do have a bio-energetic electromagnetic field of energy around us (aka auras) or that the earth gives off negative ions that help produce positive effects on the brain and chemistry of the body-mind. Therefore, a helpful reminder that coming into places in nature can improve one’s state of being.
Having information at our fingertips, I can see the positive. Take what is useful , but don’t get lost in it. Remember where you come from. It is the sun on your skin, the sand in your toes, the sound of the waves and wind in the trees. This is the true connection. One can refuel, recharge, and reset before getting back online
So let us not forget the importance of simply connecting to the natural elements around us, these days, as we continue to ride this wave into the future.
From the natural world view, we can see, without so many criss-crossing brain waves staring into the screen. Instead, go stare at the ocean, off into the horizon and see your true self begin to emerge. Without the constant seeking externally of what is inherently found within, new ideas can be birthed. Coming back in tune with nature and the magic that unfolds when you are most connected to it.
