Sh*t Martin Luther King Jr. didn’t actually say.
Dick DeMarsico.Abraham Lincoln once said: “The problem with quotes on the internet is that you can’t be sure of their accuracy.” He raises an important point.
”I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

Awhile back, in the day following the killing of Osama Bin Laden, the above quote attributed to Martin Luther King Jr. quickly went viral. Unfortunately, Dr. King never said it.
What Dr. King actually said in “Loving Your Enemies” was this:
“Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction.”
Jessica Dovey, a Penn State graduate student, had tweeted the quote with some musings of her own as well.
Whether you have the day off on Monday or not, celebrate the wonderful inspiring legacy of Dr. King by listening to words of wisdom that he actually spoke:
