Love isn’t a straight line. Here’s a poem about that. ~ ed.
I know we’re in love and I know you know, but
I appreciate the eager steadiness of your heart
Leaping into unknown tides together
I trust the knowing of your unknowing.
I know we’re in love and I know you know, but
Your endearing and undying
support has been a lifeline
In the darkest waters I’ve traversed
As a Mother
I know we’re in love and I know you know, but
Uprooting and rearranging your life
In service of ours
Is the deepest devotion to Love
I have witnessed
Maybe you don’t know
Maybe I should remind and reheart you
As often as you breathe
I’ve held my breath in heartbreak
And, arising again for air,
I revow to bless each one
That graces your chest
Shall I whisper belovings in your ear?
Write them in red ink on tan parchment?
For sweet nothings remain nothing
Unless expressed from the heart
Then becoming the fabric from which
We weave our new home.
A breathing hearth between us
Becomes the Earth beneath our feet
And from this ground,
Darling,
Let’s trust the wind.
