Gregory Mytych: I can’t remember when it happened. Was it one specific moment or something that blossomed over time? Regardless, somewhere between adolescence and adulthood, I fell in love with words. I was never an avid reader, nor am I blessed with the gift of a silver tongue. Words and phrases are what excite me. Think of it like critiquing a painting. The entire work might be a masterpiece, but the special attention paid to brush strokes and texture is how I look at writing. It’s probably why I am a sucker for hook and melody in music as well. A song could be nothing spectacular, but a well-placed turn of phrase or imperfect rhyme will catch my attention every time. As a recently divorced 46-year-old man I realized that if I am going to start my life over, I am going to incorporate my love for the written word in one way or another. I have always journaled, but that was me writing for me. Self-care as much as a creative outlet. You might stay I have a “new lease on life,” but the term lease implies a specified amount of time. I am right where I need to be, and I am going where I was always meant to go.
